Use both. The SVG is vector, stays sharp at any resolution and adapts to high-density screens — modern browsers prefer it. The PNG is the fallback for older browsers and is required for the iOS apple-touch-icon. Declare the SVG first and the PNG right after.

How do I make a favicon with a transparent background?

Pick the Transparent option under Background. The exported PNG keeps its alpha channel and the SVG has no fill, so the icon sits well on any tab color, dark theme included. The rounded and circle shapes also leave the corners transparent even with a colored background.

Three cover almost everything: 32×32 for the browser tab, 180×180 for the iOS apple-touch-icon and 512×512 for the PWA manifest. The 16×16 size still shows up in some browsers and in the bookmarks list.

Yes. Choose the Image source and upload a PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG up to 4 MB. The logo is centered and scaled to fit the chosen shape without distortion. Prefer a file with a transparent background and simple shapes — fine detail disappears at 16 pixels.
